Chilliwack River, October 9th 2010
« on: October 10, 2010, 10:02:10 AM »

After about 5 years of trying, I was finally able to convince my boss to join me out on the river (all part of my secret plan to get more time off midweek  ;D).  Unfortunately, he didn't understand the importance of arriving at the river at first light, so I had to play fishing nazi to get him out at a respectable time (which probably soured the experience a bit).  But as expected, the first hour after first light provided some fast and furious action.  For a brief period, I was hooking up every few casts.  The rest of the day was fairly steady.

By the end of the day, my boss hooked up several times and landed his first salmon, a chinook jack.  I spent a good portion of the day targeting coho and ended up with 7 coho hooked (2 hatches retained) and lots of chinook, some brutes that ended up breaking off.

I was expecting crowds, given the long weekend, but I had never seen so many people on the river!! It seemed that every half decent spot on the river was occupied by several people, even in areas that usually receive little pressure.  But regardless of the crowds, there were plenty of fish to go around.

Boss's first catch.  I think it was the fish that caught him; he seems to be hooked for life :)
