Driller,

My foolishness of giving fatty salmon to my dog (blue heeler/corgi cross) cost him two overnight visits to the vet. With intravenous drips both times and other meds I will not be so dumb again. The vet told me the fat creates break down in the intestine and he bled out both times. It was very scary to see bloody diarhea and the second time it only took bewteen 24-36 hours and he was down for the count. Even though I think it's excellent source of protein, seeing him in that bad shape is too hard.
In case you want to know, he's very active and has always been on diet control vet food. Not because he's overweight as he's never varied from 46-48 lbs for 6 years now (we got 1 yr old) but becasue he was having trouble with other brands of dog food, such as scratching, bad breath and farting. With the diet control he just seems consistent.

I have a 1 year old shiba inu and he goes bonkers for fish. He gets so excited he cant even handle basic commands. He just runs through the commands he knows before you even say them. Never fed it to him raw though. Always cooked. Never had any issues and he has had it quite a few times.

I agree with dragonspeed, raw is always best for dogs.  I usually give my dog the head of whatever fish I catch.  He downed a 27lb chinook head last year with ease.  I talked to the vet about it years ago and they said it is fine.

I was referring to CATS.  No experience with dogs and Salmon.
