Creeks near Harrison Lake under attack
« on: October 29, 2010, 02:10:23 PM »

Cloudworks Energy Incorporated wants to put another 4 rivers into pipes – let’s make sure that doesn’t happen! They are proposing to dam and divert another four creeks, Statlu, Tretheway, Shovel and Big Silver, near Harrison Lake.

Cloudworks is holding just one public open house to in regard to the Application Information Requirements (formerly known as the Terms of Reference) for this project. This meeting is coming up soon – November 3, 2010.

Please join us in attending this meeting to voice your concerns about the lack of planning, low environmental standards, the impacts of river privatization and the outrageous rates BC Hydro is forced to pay private power producers for energy that is destined to run California air conditioners.

The Open House will be held at Evergreen Hall, Cheam Room at 9291 Corbould Street, Chilliwack, BC on November 3, 2010 from 5:00 – 9:00pm.

Public comments on this controversial project can be submitted here. We have until just November 25, 2010 to comment on this proposal.

In an unusual move, the BC Environmental Assessment Office wants people to comment separately on each river diversion project in this recent Cloudworks proposal. They have also stopped accepting comments by email,  which means you must go to their website and fill out a webform. Don’t feel obliged to comment on each creek that Cloudworks wants to dam and divert, just fill out one of the forms and let the EAO know you are addressing your comments to the entire four-creek proposal.

Cloudworks has been involved in the numerous river privatization projects in BC including Miller Creek, Rutherford Creek and Upper Harrison – all of which have had significant environmental problems.

In the next week the we will be sending around information on some of the concerns with their recent Harrison proposal – so please stay
tuned.

For great background reading here is a link to an independent legal analysis regarding the inadequate environmental standards that apply
to IPP projects in BC.

See you at the events!

The public comment period is happening right now on the EAO website. Please follow these links and make your comments. We need to stop these IPP projects in BC, because they impact every citizen in BC. They are taking away our land and water rights. Selling off our resources to private energy companies who are selling electricity to power air conditioning in Nevada and California.
