Tidal Fraser River, November 14th 2010
« on: November 14, 2010, 09:42:28 PM »

I had a couple of hours to spare today so went down to Garry Point between Noon and 2pm to catch some bull trout. I arrived, took the jacket out and said, "Where are my lures??"

In the garage of course. ::) I drove back home to get them, good thing the house was only five minutes away. :)

Once I returned, made my way down to the beach, cast the spinner out, fish on. Splash splash, off the hook it came. ::)

A swift move to a different beach after a few more casts yielded another fish, but this time much smaller.

I then proceeded to the next beach. While standing in the water up to my ankles and retrieving my spinner, I noticed something moving at the corner of my eyes. I looked down, a bull trout that was easily around 4lb, casually swam by my feet. It was no more than two feet away. I scrambled to take my video camera out of the pocket, but it darted into the deep just when I got it out.

First time I've seen a fish swimming that casually in the shallows down here. I've caught many fish in the same depth, just have never seen them. It just further shows that they cruise in the shallows quite a bit while hunting for food.

I then cast different lures repeatedly to the same area with no success.

After that, time was up. I drove another five minutes to get home.

Water clarity was excellent by the way. It improved a lot in the last several days.

nice report Rod!  I too managed to hook and land the biggest bull trout I've ever caught (probably 3lbs) on a homemade gold hammered spinner yesterday.  It was nice to get out, and you're right, the water clarity was surprisingly good!

I supposed the water is really clear because it got cold.
And the water level was surprisingly low in the fraser tributary I fished this weekend.

Yep, water clarity should remain this way until late April or early May, depending on when freshet starts.
