12 lb hatch hen on Christmas Eve morning near Tamahi. Fun morning as Santa was fishing (with a level wind) a little way up river of me; suit, beard and all. :D :D :D That was in the mid-nineties.

There are still a few around. Rumours were floating around that one was caught this month.

Earliest hatchery steelhead was on the Chehalis about 20 years ago end of November while fishing for Coho church camp side when the river used to flow past the horse corralls...earliest on the Vedder was Dec 16th Peach Rd north side 17 lbs.. 1991..the reason I remember so clear because it was my biggest steelie and the year I met my wife.

It was a good day, that's going back a few years. The main river was still running past the hatchery and down in front of Purdy's. Lots of good water below the hatchery then and very few anglers. The last 10 days or so of December had a good late run of Coho and a small early run of winters. It was a great river back then excellent fishing.
