Book Reccomendations
« on: November 29, 2009, 11:34:33 AM »

Got my Dad, who's in the UK, the Passion For Steelhead book for his birthday this year and am now looking for a good Christmas read for him. Am looking for a good book on BC Salmon fishing and would be particularly interested in something which covers the centrepin / float fishing tradition in detail. He had been fishing spey and gear for Atlantic Salmon and Sea Trout for the last 40 years. Any recommendations?

Well, he didn't cover centrepin/floatfishing but I believe most anglers would appreciate a book by BC icon Roderick Haig-Brown.  My favourite is "Measure of the Year", but hey, they are all great.  On a whole different note, but every bit as enjoyable, is David James Duncan's "The  River Why?"

Thanks guys! Plumped for a DC Reid Book "Fishing For Dreams ; Notes From The Waters Edge. Will have to get hold of the West Cold Steelheader for myself as a few people have recommended that. Does it have some good info on reading water?

Dave Vedder also wrote a good book on steelheading. Here is the name of the book "Float Fishing for Steelhead: Techniques and Tackle" . I know that Hatch Matchrs has a few copies left.

The Westcoast Steelheader is a good book for B.C. style steelheading if you can find it.
Several good local guys contributed chapters to the book like David Murphy and
Mat Guiguet, but that Steve Kaye guy is a looser!  ;D ::)

Yes it is a good book and I read it every year just before steelhead seaon to get me pumped for the season. I know that Hatch Matchrs has only 3 copies left
