Father Daughter talk.......

Father and Daughter Talk

A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be very liberal, and among other liberal ideals, was very much in favor of higher taxes to support more government programs, in other words redistribution of wealth.

She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch conservative, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.

One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the need for more government programs.

The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her father. He responded by asking how she was doing in school.

Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn't even have time for a boyfriend, and didn't really have many college friends because she spent all her time studying.

Her father listened and then asked, "How is your friend Audrey doing?"
She replied, "Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. She is so popular on campus; college for her is a blast. She's always invited to all the parties and lots of times she doesn't even show up for classes because she's too hung over."

Her wise father asked his daughter, "Why don't you go to the Dean's office and ask him to deduct 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA."

The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired back, "That's a crazy idea, how would that be fair! I've worked really hard for my grades! I've invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!"

The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, "Welcome to the conservative side of the fence."

So what the father thought was it's better to be self serving. Who was the father? Gordon Campbell?

Would you appreciate the moral of the story better if it was Glenn Clark???    ;D

My son has a 3.8 GPA and appears to have a parade of women through his dorm room. I don't know what that makes him but it makes me a bit jealous.  ;)

A first grade teacher explains to her class that she is a BC Liberal. She asks her students to raise their hands if they were BC Lberals too. Not really knowing what a BC Liberal  was, but wanting to be like their teacher, their hands flew up into the air. There was, however, one exception. A girl named Lucy had not gone along with the crowd. The teacher asks her why she has decided to be different.` Because I`m not a BC Liberal.``Then,` asks the teacher, `What are you?``Why I`m a proud NDPer,` boasts the little girl. The teacher, a little perturbed and her face slightly red, asked Lucy why she is a NDPer.`Well, I was brought up to greed and corruption and to be as uncaring as possible, to sell others assets to my friends for pennies and lie my face off about it"My Dad and Mom are NDP, and I am an NDPer too.`The teacher, now angry, loudly says, `That`s no reason! What if your Mom was a moron, and your dad was a moron. What would you be then?`She pauses, and lets out a smile. `Then,` Lucy says, `I`d be a BC Liberal.`

Father Daughter Talk continued.....

That night, the daughter thinks about the talk she had with her father and she gets angrier and angrier at Audrey. Here she is working hard for excellent grades with no social life yet Audrey is partying and carrying on, and will still slide through and get her degree with a 2.0 GPA. She decides to confront Audrey the next day at school and tell her what she thinks of her.

The next day after class she walks up to Audrey, smiles and asks her if they can go for a coffee and chat. Audrey is surprised because the daughter had never shown any interest in her and her friends but readily agrees to meet a new friend. So they walk over to a local coffee bar, order coffees and sit at a corner table.

The daughter tells her about her talk with her father and immediately starts scolding Audrey about her constant partying and poor grades and how she’s wasting the opportunity she has at college. Audrey listens patiently and when the daughter seems finished she smiles and speaks quietly.

“You’re fortunate to have a father that can pay your way through college so you can focus on schoolwork. I have two part time jobs that don’t pay much but I need them to pay for my college. You see, I never knew my father and my mother is an abusive alcoholic. I get the best grades I can with my learning disability but it’s difficult for me to concentrate for long periods of time like you. I don’t drink because of my mother but I do have an addiction to chai lattes that gets expensive. I do have a lot of friends here because I think they like what I’ve tried to do despite my hardships in life. And there’s so much more to learn in college than just burying your head in books to get the best grades.”

The daughters face visibly paled but Audrey just smiled. “If you took the time to get to know me you’d see I’m not the person your father seems to think I am.” Audrey reached across the table and took the daughter’s hand. “Maybe you shouldn’t listen so much to your father and start listening more to your own heart. And it’s perfectly okay with us if you’re a conservative as long as you pay your share of the tips.”

hmmmm

... Read the first story a couple of years back but with an American Politics rendition (Dems vs Rep)...

... haven't met too many teachers who side with the Liberals...  and have read the story before only the political alliances were reversed... wasn't really funny then either...

... Talk continued.... if you had read the first story
