Arrived at the lake about 12:30pm.  It was sunny and calm. Only had 3 taps for the next 2 hours.  So lunch break.

Started fishing around 4:30pm again.  My daughter got into 1 fish right away and after that was really good for 30min then all dies down again.

One of the kokanee we gutted had these long (about 6") white worm in it's guts.  Is that tapeworm?

Round worms, very common. They will tell you the fish is fine to eat.
But I've never had one.


A tape worm is flat and when you stretch it out, it is segmented, and generally there is only one innless you cut it during the gut.

A few years ago I took the wife there for something different to do and I found 3 out of 4 fish infested with them.  After that there's no way I could and especially no way I could ever get my wife to consider eating anything from that lake. 

It's been said that only about 40 people a year get parasites in the US from fish, but still eww... 

If you are going to keep fish from that lake, clean it quickly, and keep it on ice, and definitly cook it fully.

Mmm - nice!  How about this?  I've cleaned three hatchery steelhead hens this year and found all of them had rather long white round worms in the roe!  Anyone else observe worms in roe?

FiyFishing Magician, the roe is next to the flesh but I assume there were none in the flesh.  How long were the worms?  I have cut my steelhead roe into chunks so would I have seen them?

Hey norm_2.  The worms were very long - about 4 - 6 inches and white!  They were definitely in the roe and not in the flesh.  You'd see them if they were in your roe!
