I don't know if it is only me but as for Mono, I fish 12lb running line on a center pin setup, with 10lb leader for the vedder, Im out on the island now and I use the set up for the stamp and many other rivers out here. I dont see a reason to have such high rated 30lb line unless your trying to target springs all the time. With 12lb you can fairly easily land a 20lb spring and you can use the same set up fishing steelhead or coho. Depending on the style of fishing I think the line can varry quite a bit. If you take a note from fly fishing, I have spools of different grain line for different fishing, maybe that is something to look into with your casting rod. I also have a bait caster with heavier line on it, that I would use on the fraser; so I suppose if you only have one rod you kind of have to compromise
