mini (micro) jigs for trout
« on: August 02, 2011, 10:10:08 AM »

Does anyone here use them rather then traditional spinners/bait ?

The reason for asking is I was at a lake on the weekend and tried flies, powerbait, and spinners and did not have ONE hit.

When I switched to 1/8oz jig with very small rubber tail the hits were nonstop!  The fish were so aggressive towards the jig at one point I had 5 trout below my feet trying to attack my jig.

The jigs remind me of a wooly bugger somewhat but with the extra weight on the head and the tail that undulates repeatedly there is a constant action to the jig.

I have had luck for other species with jigs but this was my first real test for trout and I was very pleasantly surprised!

well, if u want something to caste, i'd say a dark red wedding ring with a worm. trout usually can't resist those ;)

I haven't really tried jigs for anything other then salmon, but bentrods makes trout jigs. I used to use flies on my spinning gear though with good success so I don't see why a small jig wouldn't work well too.
