Steelheader replacement handle?
« on: October 02, 2011, 09:13:10 AM »

So on the flow yesterday I had one of the wood handle pieces pop off as I was reeling in.
Can you buy these from any islander dealer or do I need to contact islander to order from them?

Lots of people have the same reel as you, so why not customize it. I had a machinist make up a couple sets of handles (made of aluminum) for some old Alvey mooching reels I had. I have received many comments about them since.

I'll have to check it out next time I'm out there. It's still on there but it pops off now...the screw no longer holds it down.
Lame I say...wonder if this is common or not...and the reel is pretty much new, only fished it a half dozen times or so due to pin rod being out for warranty last season

You can put some locktite or some sort of adhesive on the screw if it will still thread, that should hold it

its not the screw..the lip on the wood slides over the screw head and pops off..the actual wood piece is loose. how I've no idea but thats how it goes

The handles can be purchased through islander for cheap. One of my steelheaders came with the black plastic handles and I ordered a set of wood ones direct from them. Great service and had them in a couple days. If it is a new reel they may just send you a replacement I would call them direct.
