Started out first light in the canal for a short while. Nothing much going on, then the pump house by the golf course started going, so we decided to head up river and look around. Couldn't make it in the spot we wanted to so we split up bit an just started working whatever looked promising. I wandered down from Minni-me while he was working a slot, tied on a pink and chrome blade, planted a cast out and bam fish on... after a few headshakes and some good pulling it lost the hook... So threw another out there and in seconds another fish on. It rolls to the surface and I can see an nice bar Coho. After a spirited tussle...Minnie-me comes down to give me a hand and we get in a nice wild Ho... snap a quick pic and off it goes. So I riffle out another cast and mid drift float dives.. another coho... this one a SLAB.... but after a couple mins the hook pops... dammit. This went on and on for a couple hrs... haven't hooked that many coho in one day in at least a couple years... in double digits.... and that was just me.. Minnie-me was into just as many, had 2 when I left for work and hit a couple more after I left. I would have gotten some more pics but got a little iffy where we were and had already gotten the i-phone wet... so here are a couple I did get before I chickened out. lol
Every fish hooked was on blades of some sort... didn't matter what color. I had hooked 4back to back on a brass blade before another BIG doe stole it off my 8 lb leader. Then I think there was like 7 on a pink and chrome blade...and a couple on chrome. Minnie-me was getting them on blue and chrome blade and full pink front, chrome back one... Think in total between us we were into about 25 hoes... a couple of them were slabs... couple jacks and most in the 8-10 lb range. Had some nice roe.. just never used it...lol
Great day indeed... can't wait to get back out there again.
