Dam seagulls!
« on: November 02, 2011, 01:00:16 PM »

Was fishing yesterday, caught a nice chrome coho the start of the day and then decided to move a bit down river.  So i left my fish at the spot I was fishing at and when I came back the eyes were gone (which I know is common) but also i noticed a hole on the side of the cohos mouth near the gills and when I gutted it, all the insides were gone except for the roe! Was just wondering if any of you guys experienced this and if its safe to eat?  Atleast it was an easy clean  :P

Don't think I could stomach eating it but I'm sure it's harmless  :D

Seagulls are scavengers, and as such they stick their beaks into a manner of nasty things.  If they then stick that beak into your fish, I would make damn sure it is well cooked before consuming it (hot smoked or baked as opposed to cold smoked).

It takes them a second to remove the eyes which has happened a few times but never had the guts sucked out.

I did have a seagull grab my float in the Vedder this year and start to fly off with it...that was a first for me.
