Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone could tell me of fishing opportunities in regards to Gambier Island? Heading out there to stay for 4days/3nights for New years and would like to know before I go in order to properly equip. Will only be doing shore fishing...or even lake/streams if possible decent fishing is avail for them as well? None of us have ever been there so really have no clue and I cant seem to find much fishing info for there on the net either

The area of Gambier we will be staying at is in the west bay area if that helps any.

Any and all info would be much appreciated. Feel free to email me info as well.

Fished around there as a little kid, bottom fish fishing usually slowed down a lot in the winter unfortunately.  Lots of rockfish conservation ares around that are closed to fishing, check the regs first.

Thanks for the info Matt, wonder if it would be worthwhile for any cutties or bulls maybe around whispering creek just outside the conservation area.....I can definitely see that fishing right outside the palce we will be staying is out of the question though as it looks to be JUST inside the line .....any decent fishing in gambier lake or any of the other lakes on the island....or do they freeze over at all?

Gambier Lk is right in the centre of the island and had fish at one point IIRC, its hike-in.  I suspect it will have some ice on it, but I strongly suspect it won't have enough ice to be safe to walk on.  Contact the CO before fishing the creek mouth, try 604-892-3230.
