Hey boys and girls,

Just wondering where I could take my buddy out at this time of year - he has some fishing experience, but not a whole lot.  He doesn't fly fish and has no real experience drifting, so I didn't want to take him out for steelies.  Also, he doesn't have waders so it can't be too cold.  Basically, I want to get him out and hopefully put something on the end of his line.  Where could I take him locally that he could hit something or other?  I was thinking something along the sea-to-sky, maybe some spinners for bullies or something like that?  I'm a little out of touch with the fishing scene this year, I've had my head down at school.

Perhaps crab-fishing around the tidal? Just borrow a couple of crab traps and strap some fresh chicken and while you wait, you can cast spinners, spoons or drop some bait till you get the hits. It's pretty cold so just bundle up and get out there! Day license should be around $5 for tidal unless the prices changed. Have a great time fishing!

Stave River, top of the toilet bowl. He might be able to scare up a cutty or two tossing small spinners.

I agree, but also all the other tributaries on that side of the Fraser River. It'll be hit and miss, which is how cutthroat fishing usually is, but the technique is pretty easy to manage and quite enjoyable if you manage to find some fish.

Yeah, quite a terrible time of year, but it's more to get him out of the house and on the water (parents are splitting up)

If your looking for steelhead the vedder is a good place to go the only thing is waders are really recomended for most spots on the river and there good fish runs don't come in tell later in the season good luck!

I thing bull trouts and cutties are your best bet. I would fish the Mamquam river for bulls and other tributaries of the Squamish river. Small spinners and spoons produce well in those systems. Let me know how it goes. J R
