Splits 98% of the time but you may catch me with a slinky for the other 2%.

ive been using the ol surgical tubing with pencil lead in it lately
but split shot never lets me down either

Rapids and shallow waters: pencil lead (small bead between lead and swivel is a good idea)
Pools and slow water: split shots (all non-removable except top one)

Does anyone know where to buy bulk split shot? I'm talking about like a pound or two.

BTW, i prefer split shot; however, might switch to pencil lead. You don't have to carry the entire coil, just cut off three pieces for the day.

Just run the line through the tubing and put the lead into the bottom of it. It gets pinched to the line with the tubing. Another method is to use two sections of tubing with the line running through them and slide over the top and bottom section of the lead for a more streamline presentation.

EBay sells them. To give u an example on price, there's one on there for $29 for a 5 lb bag of size #4 and another one for $21 for a 5 lb bag of reusable 3/8 oz.
