Yesterday morning my son woke me from a deep sleep, not planning on going out fishing, I had plans for other things to do. So I rolled out of bed and made my way to the kitchen to the smell of freshly brewed coffee. Got my coffee and sat down on the computer to check the weather then the water gragh. To my surprise I saw the drop in water and that the weather was looking pretty good for the day. So I checked with the wife who always says yes to me going fishing and began getting ready for a day on the river.
Got to the river and found the water to be almost at what I like it to be. I new as the day went on that the clarity would get better. It felt like a ghost town with really nobody in sight. I worked a number of runs throughout the day with only 1 real hit. With the day winding down it was now 3pm. I was starting to feel a little defeated but I pressed on trying. With plans to hit the canal as my last stop I thought to my self I would start heading back to the car around 3:45. It was nearing 3:30 when I made a drift into some very shallow water and the float went down.
Bam the fight was on. A surface exposion and a pull that I have only ever felt one other time. I new I was into a large fish. A rush of adrenalin shot through me and I new I was in for a battle. Another surface explosion clarified to me that this was a big fish. With several strong runs I finally got a look to identify this fish as a hatchery. After several atempts and quick bursts I was able to slide the fish in. With nobody around to witness the battle, I sat down, ate a apple , had a drink and replayed it all over in my mind. What a fight. Sorry no picture but if you want to see the fish you can see it on Freds custom tackle under fishing reports.
