Kawkawa Lake
« on: April 03, 2012, 06:05:21 PM »

Hi Everyone,
Thinking about heading to Hope this weekend, but my fishin' buddy read on "another site" that there is still ice on this lake.  Anyone know if that is true, or is it ok to bring my boat up there.  I would hate to get there, and then not be able to get out.  Let me know......thanks.

There hasn't been ice on it for a couple of months now.

However, we were there just over a week ago, fishing was not good.

Thanks Rodney...I thought it was clear based on your report but better safe than sorry...probably still going to try it, better to be out on the water than at home doing yard work!

The fishing probably/hopefully has picked up since we were there. I look forward to see a brief report after the weekend, as we are still keen on getting back there. ;)

go there with some purple or pink died krill and some dew worms, sink to bottom and then reel up about a foot.
I was up at the lake on wednesday the 4th of aprl,  and hit 4 fish after about 2 hours. not many biggies. only about hand size or little bigger. fun on a little rod none theless

Spent all day Saturday fishing with my brother and not a single bite. Only saw one fish taken by a belly boater. used krill while anchoring different spots and trolled time to time but Nada. Fish finder was showing tons of fish but they were not willing to bite. The weather on the other hand was fantastic.

Like Capman said....we got nothing....was on the lake friday from 0900-1400....lots of little rising cutties down by the rockface, but no takers...tried chronies, wedding bands with krill, and even a few spinners/spoons, but nothing.....talked to a few other boasts and they said the same......I hear Mill lake is heating up, so probably gonna fish closer to home the next few times out

When the water is cold.....you have to mooch. krill/worms/roe/chronies down deep...keep it still. I've been fishing this lake since I was a kid. If it's cold and unsettled and no one trolling is getting anything.....anchor out and mooch by the rock face. You won't get many...but you might get something....and dont' rely on one bait....you have to try everything when the lake is moody.
