Sturgeon Fishing Help
« on: April 12, 2012, 08:04:40 PM »

I have some questions about Sturgeon Fishing for this time of year.

Are fish scattered all through the river?  Upper/ Lower?  I see a lot of boats out near mission.

I've been looking for deeper holes to fish.  Example, average depth where we fish might be 16 feet.  I look for 30 foot holes or deeper.  Is this good?  Or can you have luck in 10 or 15 feet?  Sometimes the speed of the water flow can limit where you fish.  Found some nice slow water last week, but it was only 12 feet deep.

I hear they are liking the eulachon right now, but what other baits are common?  We use salmon, and roe.  I heard chicken will work, and dew worms.

Any tips greatly appreciated.

Dude just keep trying ,dont stay in one spot for to long! I have hooked fish in 10 to 80 feet of water you just never know :) Sure there are holes but the fish get pounded on a regular basis try to avoid going to the same spot all the time because you saw boats there. As for bait, yup right now its oolies but you can try anthing at this time year,Hell i have hooked fish using octopus early on,dew worms ,lamprey and ditch eels if you can get em. Then later in the season just key in on whats in the river at the time.

For bait, eels are on the menu this time of year.
Few years ago I was out with Vic this time of year and we were fishing just up from the Vedder in about 12' of water
I called it the flats, boats were scattered around the area fishing the same water.
