Capilano River, May 4th 2012
« on: May 04, 2012, 09:43:42 PM »

I also went to the Capilano today for a few hours with mixed emotions. Part of me stood at the rivers edge looking into the water excited for the Coho season to begin and the other  part of me sadened  as i lookied at the river bank already strewn with empty coffee cups, plastic roe containers and nests of fishing line. I spent most of my time picking up garbage and placing it in a garbage bag I always carry with me. I took up the practise of picking up garbage after I witnessed a gentleman doing this on  the Vedder a few years ago. The garbage on the Vedder I am sure was not his nor the garbage on the Capilano mine but I do believe that actions speak louder than words and the actions of a stranger doing the right thing on the Vedder that day has made me appreciate and respect the environment so many of us take for granted . I thank the stranger for his quiet teachings.

Good on ya.   ;D    I do the same thing especially fishing line as I have seen the damage it can do to birds and water mammals.  :-\ The yards of fishing line left behind by some on the Fraser is unbelievable.  It weights practically nothing and can be put into your pack, vest or pocket and carried out.  Not a hard task but it seems to much effort for some.   Maybe CO's could watch for this to and cancel the offenders license for littering.

Probably not they are so understaffed and have such a wide area to cover.   Pick it up people, if you carry it in carry it out.

I really do not want to sound like an my friend here, however, Fisherman that go to the bridge please pick your garbage up!! If you have mono that you need to get rid off please take it to Canadian tire where they have a special recycling container for fishing line. I went fishing next to two guys that where smoking, and I do not mind the smell of tobacco, however, what I do mind is the fact that this man threw his cigarette butt into the river and left his flipping empty roe bag  and his cigarette pack on the shore. If you read this small rant please do not take it personal yet please be respectful of others who also enjoy fishing. Here is something I live by: Always leave the place you just visited in better shape : always leave the river with a bag full of garbage.

I just packed a garbage bag in my fishing backpack for my next outing. Thanks for the idea! I pick up line or garbage if I see it, but never thought to bring an actual garbage bag with me to carry more crap out with me. Drives me nuts just like you guys. Great idea in giving back to this amazing resource. Hope to see you guys out there some time.
