Chilliwack River, July 8th 2012
« on: July 09, 2012, 03:34:14 PM »

Drove canal to hatchery.Water was high as I have ever seen it this time of year. Was out at first light. Many campers and partiers giving the impressionfrom Tamahi up the river was busy .Fished three stretches that I thought might hold fish even with the high water these spots had good current seems and deep  slow edges.Nada.Beautiful morning with not a soul in these normally busy spots. At the slab about six thirty encountered a camper who said in four days of fishing this torrent his catch had only been some trout. Slab was roaring with no pools showing. As nice a morning as any on earth.Mahaps once  she drops a tad.

Thanks for the report Riverman, I was thinking about heading out on Wed. but I think I'll let the water get a bit lower. With all the sun were finally seeing it won't be too long now. Thanks for the report and hope to see you on the flow !

When she drops fishing should be worth a shot. These fish are getting tougher and tougher to catch every year.

Me hearties... ya be wasting yar fuel driving out there only to fish high fast waters.  Yargh... wait for August.
salmonpirate may well be right about waiting till August as the water level is very high and there is still a pile snow in the hills.  And a lot of garbage in the riparian area ...how about coming to the cleanup on Saturday instead of fishing?

Yargh, you'll feel good about doin it lads.  Bring yer kin and make a grand day of it.

i've hooked into one red today.
it was already a red tint to the body.
beauty fight but lost it due to fast water. and abrasion on the rocks.

Dave and others who have volunteered before, do you think the cleanup event is kid friendly? i have that saturday off and was thinking about bringing the little guy with me to help out. he loves picking up garbage, and loves being outdoors. just want to make sure it would be appropriate or if i should leave him at home this time and come solo?

This event is very kid friendly and most definitely bring your son!   What a great start for a youngster, looking forward to meeting you both.

Good job! How was the water? I might head out next week if the water is good. There should be plenty of sockeye to keep you busy too.
