I think I owe Chris and Apology. I used to rib him for all his cutting and pasting and look at me now
Hehe. Still would like to here more of his own word though. Anyhow...
Viruses from salmon farms are low risk to wild fishSalmon Farm Science, Aug 3, 2012
Viruses from salmon farms are not likely to harm wild salmon.
The idea that salmon farms can “amplify” a natural virus to the point that it will harm wild salmon is pure speculation not backed up by facts.
Since salmon farmers are having trouble with the IHN virus right now, let’s talk about this virus specifically.

..."Environmentalism" is an "ism" like capitalism and socialism. In that sense it connotes an ideology or shared set of beliefs, not necessarily based on scientific proof or evidence. An environmentalist is therefore distinct from and ecologist, as ecology is a science.
If someone claims to be an environmentalist, I assume they care about nature and about our impact on it. But one must dig deeper to find if they are misanthropic or accepting of humans as part of the environment. This is really a question of attitude rather than facts.

(Santa Barbara, Calif.) –– Most people think of seafood as either wild or farmed, but in fact both categories may apply to the fish you pick up from your grocery store. In recent years, for example, as much as 40 percent of the Alaskan salmon catch originated in fish hatcheries, although it may be labeled "all wild, never farmed."

Hatchery gets 'seeds' for future salmon returnsBy NICOLE KLAUSS, Kodiak Daily Mirror, Published: August 6th, 2012
AFOGNAK, Alaska - Creating salmon life isn't easy - there's an exact science to it, and a lot of physical labor is required... Egg takes like these happen at different places across the Kodiak archipelago, but the ultimate goal is the same: create fish for fishermen.

California needs to dramatically reform its fish hatcheries in order to maintain healthy salmon and steelhead populations, according to a major new study.
The $2 million study, released Tuesday by state and federal wildlife agencies, concludes nearly two years of work by a panel of fishery experts. It found, among other things, that the state lacks standard protocols to manage the 40 million salmon it produces each year at eight hatcheries. It also does not do enough field monitoring to fully understand the fate of all those fish.
