Interior lakes right now
« on: August 15, 2012, 06:40:00 PM »

Just wondering what the general consensus was on fishing interior lakes right now.  Is it worth the effort or has it simply been too warm to fish the lakes out that way.  Was considering trying out Tunkwa or others in the area.  I'll only be fly fishing, best stick to the high alpine or cool streams?  Any thoughts?

My brother caught a 23.5" x 15.5"  (almost 7 lbs) 'bow out of a lower elevation lake near Kamloops last night, so it can be done.
Fish deep.

I fished the interlakes area on the Aug long weekend. Managed to get into a few at Fawn and Watch, but only at first and last light. Dead slow during the heat of the day for us.

Higher elevation lakes are your best bet to avoid the doldrums.

Alternatively, deeper lakes may produce but you'll have to get your lure down there. Since you're flyfishing this will add to the challenge.

From some of the reports that I have read, people are still pulling lakers and rainbow out of Shuswap Lake using downriggers and other deep fishing techniques.  I know this isn't exactly what you are looking for.
