Upper Cheakamus
« on: September 10, 2012, 10:01:18 AM »

Did a bunch of exploring and fishing as I wasn't very familiar with the upper part of this river.  Tried to a few spots around cal-cheak area and had no luck.  Cool suspension bridge though.  I was using rubber grub jigs and flies.  Also went to where Whistler Bungee has their bridge but it was canyon there which couldn't be accessed.

As I was driving back home I remembered a spot that we used to access, however, since highway construction it is kind of inaccessible (no parking nearby).   I parked up the highway and rode my bike down to it.  I fished here for about 1/2 hour with dry flies and got one small rainbow.   Going through my tackle I noticed an old beat up rooster tail in my tackle and put it on under a float and ended up catching a bunch of very feisty rainbows in the next hour.  Wish I would have tried it at the other spots!  I didn't want to leave but the wind picked up and I was freezing my butt off.  Nice powerful river and I will be back with a six pack of rooster tails.  :)
