Vancouver Salmon Update, Monday September 10

http://www.vancouversalmonfishing.ca/guide-journal/?p=762

The boys at Pacific Angler are hoping you are getting out on the water this month.  September started off with a bit of a lull but now we are into some great fishing for larger chinook salmon as well as some of the larger coho salmon of the year.

So far September has brought Vancouver some spectacular weather and it looks to continue through the weekend.  The Vancouver forecast is calling for sunny conditions all the way through until Monday with daily high temperatures ranging from 17 to 21 degrees Celsius and daily low temperatures ranging from 8 to 12 degrees Celsius.  If you are heading out on the water make sure to bring lots of layers, wool socks, and a good wind breaker.  Mornings and late afternoons can be a bit on the cool side, however it can get nice and hot during the day.

The Marine Forecast for the Straight of Georgia is the following:

“Today Tonight and Wednesday – Wind northwest 15 to 20 knots diminishing to northwest 10 this morning then increasing to northwest 15 to 20 early this evening. Wind diminishing to northwest 10 to 15 near midnight.

Thursday – Wind northwest 5 to 15 knots.

Friday – Wind northwest 5 to 15 knots.”

You can expect a small chop on the water when fishing within the Vancouver harbour with a northwestern wind.  If these winds get up to 15 knots it can make things a bit uncomfortable fishing along T-10 and even the Bell Buoy.  This is when it is advantageous to fish along the West Vancouver shoreline.

Our guides have been doing well with the usual rigs.  Make sure to read our previous blog update for a detailed look at our guides setups.  Anchovies with a teaser head and flasher have been working the best.  As we move further into September and the fishing at the mouth of Capilano River gets firing on all cylinders make sure to concentrate your efforts around the flood tide and into the beginning of the ebb.  While it is hard to predict when the bite is going to go on, the flood tide is usually the most productive.  Also, make sure to check your knots and mainlines regularly.  This is the time of year when the big boys are hanging around…it is always a heart breaker losing a big fish from a faulty knot.

If you would like to book your next fishing trip please do not hesitate to contact Dave at Pacific Angler (604-872-2204).  Space is limited as we place our guests on the best possible tides for the day.  While a 5 hr charter will get you in the game a 8 hr charter will enable you to fish through the peak of the entire tide.
