Stave River, October 1st 2012
« on: October 02, 2012, 08:11:50 AM »

I ran the river in my Zodiac yesterday from the hwy bridge to the dam. The water level was better than I was expecting from previous reports but still 4-5 feet lower than I have ever seen it.
I took the main channel on the way upstream and the large side channel on the way down.
I didn't see a single salmon between the dam and the toilet bowl. No fish scooting under the boat, no fish rising.
The toilet bowl held 3 or 4 dark chum wandering in a large circle and there was a small pod of old chum above the island near the dam.
Didn't see any coho or any chum near fresh. Lots of seals, though.
Only the seal up near the dam was fishing. The rest were just hanging out and blowing bubbles - I guess waiting for fish.
