Chehalis River, October 30th 2012
« on: October 31, 2012, 10:59:39 AM »

Went for 1st light to Chehalis. Water was muddy?!?! I have never seen this river that coloured even back some years when the water was going through the campsite. Very discouraged, I went for a walk. Saw some roll in a side channel. Hooked one coho in a pond only to find out it was wild. I think that is the first wild fish I have ever hooked in this system. As the day went on, water started to clear, but I ran out of time. At noon it was about 12-18" visibility and I managed another hookup about 10ft from shore on roe in some slow moving water.
Disappointing day as I expected this river to be still in decent shape. The logging sure has affected this river in the rain. Oh well, fish have a better chance I suppose. I would think with all this rain the river will blow out again. I will visit again when the weather clears up, I guess that to be around Mar 2013? :P

It was perfect later, I hooked many on blades and roe. When I was walking in three guys were leaving at first light because of the water color, but an hr later it was that perfect three foot visibility coho water. Also met a newer fisher and showed him how to do a drag free shortlfloat. I gave him some of my roe as I left, hope he did well.
