Last pink season (2011) someone posted a picture of a chartreuse colour fly pattern for pinks which I heard were very productive. I was searching for the photo and could not locate it any more. I think it was a streamer type with chartreuse buck tail(?) and some flashabou and krystal flash(?) maybe mixed in. At that time, I did not pay much attention, so missed the finer details. If someone could point to the location of that photo (if it still exists), it would be greatly appreciated as I am tying up some flies for the upcoming pink season.  :)

this is my favourite pink fly and probably the one your thinking of.

Add some green crystal flash (3 strands doubled over) between the white and chartreuse bucktail. Use white thread to tie the fly and extra small dumbbell eyes (lead). I tie mine no longer than 3 inches in length and tie them on size 6 saltwater straight eyed hooks (gamakatsu fly hook)

Thanks for the pic Hook. I do have a few of those in my box too.
The one I am looking for is not a clouser minnow type, but more like mikey finn but in chartreuse colour with flashabou or krystal flash mixed in. I have seen a guy fish it on the Squamish with amazing results. I saw an exact same copy of that fly on this site in 2011 and wanted to make one like that this year. Just can't seem to be able to locate the photo.

the clouser minnow is basically the same as a mickey finn. Mickey finn is yellow/red bucktail, silver mylar body with or without the silver wire ribbing, gold crystal flash tied between the bucktail colours (optional)

I would bet the fly you were shown was a silver body, chartreuse/white bucktail, and then whatever you remember the flash colour was but I would bet it was either pearl, silver, bright green and either flashabou or a crystal flash (the crinkled looking stuff)

you don't need to get super fancy with pink flies but I do find having a few pink and chartreuse patterns on hand will get you fish every time. Its more about getting to the proper water depth so the fish can see your fly and then presenting it to them well.

Here is my short list

Pink wooly buggers (1/8bead, this is for when I need to get down), Pink wooly bugger with purple tail and purple hackle, Pink beadhead rolled muddler, Pink rabbit strip wing with silver body, Pink Eve

Chartreuse wooly bugger, Chartruese rabbit strip wing/ silver body, Clouser, Chartreuse beadhead rolled muddler

honestly i normally only ever use 3 of those patterns and in this order - Clouser, Pink wooly bugger, Pink/purple bugger.

not sure where you will be fishing for Pinks but for me in the ocean and in the rivers anything pink with a bit of flash works if you get it in front of the school and at the right depth
no need to get too fancy
just my two cents ;)

Wasn't me who posted the fly but I have tied and used a Mickey Finn that subs chartreuse hair for yellow and that works well for cutts, coho etc. You can use orange rather than red for the centre band or even pink. Never tried it for pinks. On the Island simple hair streamers that use chartreuse or royal blue hair with a silver body are popular. Pinks, like all the salmons aren't particular about pattern but size and colour can make a difference. I've had days where green, chartreuse, blue or even drab patterns tied with light olive mallard or wooduck took fish when the usual pink flies wouldn't . At the vice just start with a Mickey Finn in mind and do your best. When you catch a pile of fish - post a photo! ;D

Thanks for the valuable comments guys! :)
I have been tying clousers, mickey finn, coho buggers and rolled muddlers in chartreuse and other colours in preparation for the upcoming season. I can't wait to hit the flow next month. I fish the Squamish area for pinks.

I use Gurglers in the ocean (Foam Dry Flies) Land it a couple feet in front of a finning school and rip it in really fast, they make a huge wake behind the fly as they attack it, Pretty cool way to catch them

Hook, do you use the 'red' lead eyes or just plain unpainted lead...do you think it makes a difference?

I just use the unpainted lead eyes. I have used both red and silver also and it didn't make a difference. I think in a river situation it doesn't really matter as the fly is moving quickly and coming at the fish either broadside or with the butt of the fly toward them meaning they don't exactly see the eyes too much.

If your fishing a "meat" eating species like Bull trout then yes I want the eyes to look real (ish) because they key in on the head area for striking to disable and kill their prey
