Sockeye Jacks
« on: August 22, 2013, 10:13:12 AM »

Anyone notice that there is an extraordinary number of sockeye jacks in the fraser test fisheries this year?  Clicking on to the 2009 reports shows the same thing and we all know what happened in 2010.

Are you talking about Area 12 seine numbers for this year and the huge run of Sockeye in 2010?

Already figured that next year will be huge for Sockeye based on the 2010 run.

For those that don't know - jacks return a year early and are a sign of the next year's run.

Yep.  This also occured in the jack counts for 2005.  2006 was a decent year as well (though below what was forecasted).

Interesting to see what next year brings.  Don't think we'll see 30 million again but should be a strong run.
