« on: September 02, 2013, 11:43:31 PM »

First question is there a bait ban? At tidal fraser  If so can I still fish for peamouth
Chub with dough?

Also I'm going tmr for fishing tidal fraser river road lots of ppl today but no fish caught
And I don't really want to fish for salmon there
I wanna bottom fish but thing is I don't have the bar fishif weights I have the bouncing Betty's I don't want ppl to think I'm
Snagging sockeye or trying to catch it lol
So would the Betty's work? This what I want to do weight and a leader 1-2ft with shrimp and leave rod on holder and wait for a tug or something what would that catch me? And what fish? Thanks

Been where you are at bro, here goes:

- There is a bait ban starting today on the Fraser until early October when cohos open.

http://www-ops2.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/xnet/content/fns/index.cfm?pg=view_notice&lang=en&DOC_ID=153536&ID=recreational

"The use of bait and fishing for coho is prohibited from 00:01 Tuesday,
September 3, 2013 to 23:59 Friday, October 4, 2013."

- Chubb season ends as water temps drop, water clears and salmon chase them away. Right about now.

- BBs are for sandy bottom, lower / tidal Fraser is mud, rocks, weeds and snags. Wrong gear.

Essentially, you are doing it all wrong. You can take comfort, however, in the fact that I myself have yet to catch a salmon yet this year, and I think I know a few things! Ha! If spending a few bucks on a proper how-to-fish course at your local tackle shop isn't your style, make sure you at least observe proper ettiquite and fishing regulations as you occupy space along the riverbank. Guys who take the time and expense to learn how to fish properly seem a bit more hawkish this year, I know I prefer to correct myself than be corrected by angry strangers. Good luck!

In order to let in danger Interior Coho through without being caught easily on bait. (correct me if I am wrong)

The bait ban is not only for salmon, but for all species in the tidal portion of the Fraser River.
Please refer to the 2013-2015 BC Tidal Waters Sport Fishing Guide page 40, area 29 Finfish (Other than Salmon)

Thanks for pointing that out ktt. In the past the management measures for interior coho and steelhead only include bait ban for salmon fishing, not all finfish species. This is just one of several irregularities between the printed version and the online version of the tidal waters regulations, so will bring that up. There's no reason to have a blanket bait ban for all species when fishing for coarse fish and other estuary groundfish will have no impact on the salmonid species.

So does that nullify bait fishing opportunities for sturgeon in the tidal?

Very good question as well. Based on what the printable version is saying, it'd make bait fishing for sturgeon not legal right now. I am going to find this out immediately and provide an answer within a day or two.

Just received an answer. The bait ban is for salmon fishing only as I had first thought. I've recommended to have this correction available in a fishery notice as the printable version of the regulations is already out there (some may have printed it out and passing on the information).
