want to take a wannabe fisherman to the vedder to introduce him to river fishing. Still cant cast properly but has passion and will to learn. would like to show him an area where he can at least hookup with a salmon. i was thinking an area of the river that he can use a bar rig and wait for a bite. Your inputs would be appreciated. thanks.

Give him a fly rod and some waders.

Somewhere in the canal would be ideal. Just walk and find a spot you can set up.

Growing up my grandfather and I bar fished the canal with great success. Not only for salmon but for steelhead as well.

or set yourself up and drift fish, this will help you get better at casting a lot faster. basically anywhere in the lower river should have a lot of pinks in it and some spots will have springs as well in the deeper areas.

X2. This is what the old timers did long before drift fishing became popular. My Dad was one of them.

I Run a bar rig with roe in the canal with very good success.

Even though you have first come first serve rule for the river jerk drift fisherman really become rude when bar fishing. Just a warning.

I have landed 3 springs and lost 4 springs, caught too many male pink and also have hit coho and a chum on the bar rig this season in the vedder.

Use a chrome body with a orange or green top. they are just awesome.

Still an old timer or two there, you'll see them set up just below KWB.
