How big a school of salmon is?
« on: September 26, 2013, 06:36:27 PM »

Hi,

How big a school of salmon is? I believe pink is the biggest, chinook is the smallest?
Any information would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

From my observations, they would go in this order:

Pink
Sockeye
Chum
coho
chinook

I could be wrong, so I will leave to a fisheries biologist to confirm it or refute it.

My question is about the number of fish in each school. Chinook: 20? Pink 1000?

I'm pretty sure it's random.  I don't think the fish school to a certain amount and then think to themselves that they hit 1000 then move on to another school that has less fish  :P

But from Milo's order, it seems right if your thinking about what schools of fish are the largest.

Fish are so smart because they spend so much time in schools.

Saw 2 chrome 10 lb cohos today  in the harrison today.  1 landed ( wild )   and 1 lost.       Wow, great to see after pink season.
Coho are such a beautiful fish.
