baitcast reel on telescopic spinning rod
« on: October 12, 2013, 04:57:47 PM »

Hi,

Any one tried to use baitcast reel on a telescopic spinning rod? Will it work?

I am thinking to buy a 4 meter telescopic spinning rod, so I can cast far.

I am told, each 2 piece fishing rod has a "spine", the eyes are positioned according to the spine. so baitcast reel will not work on spinning rod. But each section of telescopic rod is short. Is there a spine on telescopic rod?

Any information would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Well for one thing, spinning rods dont have the pistol grip thingy for your index finger like a casting rod would.

Yes you "could" use a baitcaster on a spinning rod. You also "could" drive your car with your feet. Neither, however, are a good idea. Spinning rods are made for and work well/properly with spinning reels. The same goes for baitcasting rods/reels. As mentioned already baitcasting rods have a "trigger" so you can hold it properly for casting. Spinning rods do not have a trigger. Also the eyes on a spinning rod are much bigger and made for the way line comes off a spinning reel. With a baitcasting reel on a spinning rod I imagine you would lose some casting distance.

Get yourself a decent baitcasting rod 10-12 feet from a fishing shop that can help you pick the right rod. The Shimano Convergence is only about 100 bucks and in the right length/power will be a very decent rod.
