Fished Silvermere yesterday 2:30 - 6:30. Fishing was SLOW, we only managed one which looked like a sunfish of some sort, about 10". Threw everything at them. A couple of other guys with 11 years history on that lake had a very slow day too, said the spawn was over and they were mending.
 
Three homeowners in boat tried repeatedly to bully us off the lake, saying lake was private, cops and tow trucks on the way, blah, blah, blah. We kept fishing, politely refusing to leave. Cops showed up and were there for 30-45 min. We stayed out on lake until we saw a tow truck near the parked cars and we then rushed back to shore. We talked to tow driver and turns out it was due to alcohol, not waterbody use.

What did we catch??

The fish you caught is a black crappie, very good eating if taken from clean lakes.

As I understand it, all the land around the lake is private, except where the lake touches the highway 7 right-of-way. If you launch a boat from this public land, and do not go ashore anywhere else, you are within the law.

I agree Poper. I see it the land under the lake does not include the water over the land. And as I understand water rights, it means right to water; not ownership of all the water. Also a public highway is public property, so access via public property on to water that no-one is able to own, should be legal. The only so-called private lakes I know of are lakes that are totally surrounded by private property, making access across land illegal, while the water is still owned by on-one.

Still seems like a pain.  There is not much room to park/launch @ the highway.  The strange thing is that I pass by Silvermere often and virtually never see a boat on it.  Seems like a waste to me.
