Unfortunately, this is the state of politics in BC and Canada today.
All in the name of "lean government", internal "control" groups that in the past monitored government projects have disappeared. All that remains are the groups to initiate projects and come up with the "rules" but without anyone to enforce the rules, they are meaningless.
It appears that the opposition parties are useless as well, as shown by the audit of the Portland Hotel Society. When it was determined that an NDP MLA was the worst offender, the NDP pretty much swept the whole thing under the rug and the government was happy to oblige.
It must be obvious by now that government is only interested in providing opportunties to big business in return for whatever hidden benefits are given in return.
Both the provincial and federal governments should be in court defending themselves but there is no one left to call them out. The last ombudsman that critized the provincial government found himself out of a job pretty quickly.
Sorry for the rant, but politics are really messed up world-wide and no one cares enough to do anything about it.
