Chilliwack River, September 12th 2014
« on: September 13, 2014, 10:31:32 AM »

Hit the lower river today. The water is very low.

There is heavy machinery upstream from KWB and below Cottonwoods and in the river doing some kind of work (gravel extraction?).

Used only hardware today. No fish for me. Didn't see any fish caught. Saw fish in the river - very spooked and tight lipped.

They are doing trail erosion protection near Peach and have a good portion of the Rotary Trail fenced off.   The Pamphlet says DFO gave them a deadline of September 15 to finish all work along the river, so I suspect next week there should be less machinery sending debris down the river and spooking the migrating salmon.

I concur C-pin's report.  Very very low and clear.  There are surprisingly quite a few fish present in all of the deeper holes.  Getting them to bite, especially during high sun, is tough but not impossible.  Also saw lots of machinery and lots of changes to the lower river.  Looks like quite a few big gravel extractions from train bridge down to the canal.  These should be excellent coho areas when the water comes up.  Some decent rainfall forecast for next weekend.
