Chehalis River, November 1st 2014
« on: November 02, 2014, 02:53:39 PM »

My better half went out with friends to do some shopping.  With no slave driver at home I'm definitely heading out to do some fishing.

I called up a fishing buddy, see if he would've been interested to meet up.   What a guy he was already on he's way to the river!!!  I quickly loaded up and was on my way in 10 min.

Spotted his parked car I pulled up behind his, suited up and I was on my long hike to my new favorite pool.  The anticipation for another good day of fishing really got me flying down the 'trail'.  My buddy was fighting a fish when I arrived at the pool.  "What took you so LONG!!!  This is my 3 coho!!!"  POP  the fish unzipped.  "HAH!! Serves you right, who told you to abandon me and been so cocky!!" (I so wanted to say that out to him but....    ;D)

He rebaited and started to work the pool and I worked the tail out area.  It wasn't long for him to get another bite but hmm I'm not getting anything on the line...   :-\

Water was definitely up may be fish isn't milling around the tail out area as the flow did look kind of fast.  So I left my buddy to work the pool and I walked further down river.  After a few min of hike I found a stretch with small eddies.  I started to work them from bottom up.  Immediately I got a strike!!  It wasn't big about 4~5 lb but it is a coho.    8)

I continued to work my way up and I was able to get 2 cohos out of the area, then I was getting chum...   ???   Well with chum in the run coho would not be sticking around so more hiking was in order.

Just as I was going to head further down river my buddy came and told me he's all done and I should move back to the pool.  So back up to the top I went.  I didn't get any hit in the lower part of the pool and it dawn on me that my buddy had been working the lower part of the pool and might have spooked those holding cohos from the immediate area so I walked right to the top and worked my way down.  Surely enough I got a hit.....  and missed.... and another hit and missed....  hmmmm   I checked my hook and realized I've not sharpen or changed hook for a LONG time and it was DULL.  So redone my leader/hook and rebait I started fishing again...     :-\ :-\  Where's all the fish?!?  I'm all ready now and NO more strikes!!!

For the next hour or so it was DEAD!!  Then I started to get chum..  Hmm this might be the batch that I encountered in the eddies earlier.  So I went back down to the eddies hoping that coho would've moved in with that batch of chum gone.  For a long while there was nothing and as the sun sets behind the trees.. I was beginning to think my streak of good luck might have just ran out.  With nothing in the eddies I went back up to the pool and my buddy told me to hurry up and get my last two.  As he had finished his lunch, snack and more snacks.  He decided to help out.  He got a strike and passed his rod to me and I landed the chrome doe and he had another coho on my rod and passed that to me...    :o :o  What gives!!!!!?!?

Apparently he was using bright orange cured roe and I was using natural colour and that was the little difference that made his roe more appetizing to the cohos.

He gave me that smirk look..    argghhhh...  What a chump...
