20 lbs line is plenty strong assuming you've checked it for knicks  I pulled some chum on 10lbs line while fishing for coho just had to play them out.. Mono I use Palomar and for braid I'll use the clinch. If its thick mono (25lbs plus) I like to use clinch.

Thank you Everyone for the feedback. I was using a  snell knot.
I short float and it breaks around the middle of my four feet leader.

that isn't a problem with the knot as it is the main line that breaks. Pointing the rod tip at the fish can make it break like this.

It's not your knot. Probably have your drag too tight not letting the fish tire out

also i went fishing this weekend and i caught some very female chum and it was easy to land
also it might be I am very new to salmon fishing and I dont know how to play big fish
and i might look into my drag

Sucks when that happens. Operator error is unforgivable. Like you, my first year was similar. I switched to the trilene knot for mono, Palomar for braid/fire line crystal, and seaguar blue fluoro for leaders and now have no issues.

Also I make sure to lube well before clinching down on the fluoro. I like Stren 17-20 lb for mainline.
