Reason for making your own spinners
« on: August 18, 2015, 03:53:43 PM »

I went for a walk today and went into a local shop that sells fishing tackle. I noticed the following for Blue Fox Vibrax spinners:

Size 2 - $9.99
Size 3 - $10.99
Size 4 - $11.99

I've been making my own spinners for a few years, but still like to pick up some commercial ones (Mepps Aglia -a classic) from time to time.  Is it me? Or are those prices way out of the norm?

Not sure where you are located, but $7-$8 is the norm for the larger sizes in LML shops.

--New Stock? New price, add 30% over last years wholesale prices due to Canadian dollar.
--I would speculate also that if a company did not pay their spring order suppliers until 90 days after arrival they ended up selling most of their supplies and the current wholesale price... Ie basically they sold a lot but made no money when they had to pay up for the products.
--I expect some companies took a big hit in cash flow...  then add fishing closures and I would think there are a lot of nervous store owners out there.

US : Canadian Dollar does not help (adds a 30% premium).

As much as I try and support the local fishing shops, I have been shopping online for some stuff.  Its hard to justify those prices when you can buy 3 - Size 3 Blue Foxes online for the price of one at a local store.

Better spinners here equipped with sickle hooks and he is local. http://www.bentrods.ca/specials/weigthed-spinner-special Another plus is this site advertises its prices and they are in Canadian dollars.
