Kudos to Skaha
« on: September 01, 2015, 08:17:30 PM »

Just wanted to do a public thank you to Larry, aka Skaha. A buddy's family and my family went to Skaha lake camping to try for some Smallmouth. I pm'ed Skaha for some info and he gave some good starting points and areas. Also included his phone number. So we get there and the first day total intimidation by the size of the water. After fishing for 3 hrs and nothing I decided to call Larry. Well, he comes down to our campsite with maps, copied some for us, gave us a couple of packs of soft baits and did everything but put the fish on our hooks. Apparently he should have done that too. We only got one but after Larrys help we were getting bites just couldn't get any to stick.
Long and short of it is, Larry took time out of his day to come down, meet us and helped us out with tactics, gear and maps. Heck of a great guy.
A million thanks to you Larry from myself and Martin. Cheers.

A common problem to new people fishing small mouths with soft plastic.

When you feel a tap tap, reel while lowering the rod top to get out all the slack, then set the hook HARD with a sharp pull up ensuring your drag is tight, there is no slack, and your antireverse is on.

Remember, hook sets are free.

And I thought they were just doing that for "dramatic effects" on TV bass shows... Lol. But a good hook set is a very common issues and I even set the hook a few times now as I fish ultra light rods and kept losing fish due to this...

Good job skaha!
