Vedder Bull

Caught my first Vedder bull yesterday.... Thought I had a steelhead on by the way it fought and jumped.... But got it to shore and realized it was  a bull!
Caught right at the head of a run .... Low and rough water.
It just slammed on....thought it was a snag till it head upstream !!

Sorry no pics as I was by myself and it was hard enough to catch and release it, couldn't handle a camera too....
 Time for a GoPro ...maybe ....hmm

It was prob 9-10lbs ... Put up a great fight .

The whole thing was kinda sureal ...It all happened right as a Raft full of ...'rafters' stopped on the other side .... All of a sudden out of the blue I had an enthusiastic cheering audience as I reeled in the fish ....I had to laugh...

2 mins later they were gone and it was peace and quiet again....

Just thought I'd post as it was a first for me ...

bulls don't jump . at least i1ve noticed that for couple years of targeting them .... difference between coho and bull - cohos do jump  ...

Whitefish don't jump either but tell that to the two I've had jump.

And yet this one apparently jumped like a Steelhead. Why not? There are always exceptions to the normal. Sure was a nice day yesterday to catch one. Sounds like it put on a great show. Nice one.

congrats on the fish bobby b and Kudos for not forcing a picture and stress on the fish when it was not possible or hard to do. 
wish everyone else had the same mentality.  good job!

I had never had a bull/dolly jump ever, out of the hundreds I had caught on the Skagit, Vedder, island flows, and other various mainland flows. Then, early this month, I had a 6 pound bull on the upper Vedder take me down the entire run and boost 3 times. I thought it was a steelhead the whole time. There are always exceptions to the rule.

Cool to hear you also found a spunky one, and a big one at that! I love catching them, they are always an awesome surprise when fishing steel!

I've had them jump - often 3 or 4 times. Not very high out of the water and certainly very few do but it happens.

I agree pics of the mysterious fish actually jumping or it didn't happen  ::)

I also wonder about the obsession of taking a pic of every fish caught ....

I was fishing the Skagit early after opening last year. All of a sudden I heard a huge splash a couple of meters downstream from what I can only guess was a huge bull trout (not hooked, I was fishing upstream and had my fly in the water ahead of me). I highly doubt it was a rainbow, so most likely a big bull...
