Okanagan Area Bass Fishing
« on: December 12, 2015, 07:19:53 AM »

Hey guys,

Been wanting to plan a lake-hopping trip through the Merritt/Kelowna/Osoyoos/Princeton loop for the spring.

I'm familiar with the usual small and large lakes in the area, but I'm looking to target mainly bass this time around.

Was wondering if anyone could share some input on good bass fishing lakes in that area. Preferably small shore/float tube friendly lakes.

Been doing some homework online and found the usual... Vaseux, Osoyoos, Skaha, and Shannon
Anyone know of any other bass lakes among the millions of lakes scattered along the 97C in the Merritt - Kelowna stretch, or in the Osoyoos/Princeton area?

Thanks in advance!

Vaseux is one of my favorite lakes. Its a easy-to-know lake, easy to get dialed in on them.   Yum dingers watermelon red flake wacky rigged is good for most fishing there. If you can kick out to the middle of the lake there is a huge pot hole that goes from 6-7feet to maybe 20 feet anchoring next to it and fishing the drop has been really good for me.

Thanks for the tips!
Vaseux is definitely on my list as I have never fished it. Quite a large lake for float tubes I think though?

--Not really to big... can fish anywhere along the shore near the camp grounds or pull outs. The big difference would be if you want to cross over to fish near the island but again there is a public boat launch an the south end of the lake that is much closer to the island. Just don't head to far west of the boat launch or you will be heading to Osoyoos via the okanagan river.
--In spring there is good trout and kokanee fishing as well in the lake.

--Skaha another "big lake" but again you can float tube or fish from shore near any of the public camp sites and catch bass.

--Vaseau and Skaha can kick up big winds and usually do most days so just stay a reasonable distance from your put in area.

I start by the camp site and kick directly to the opposite bank, the wind wwill move me next to the hole.

A few years ago we experienced the bass fishing at Skaha and it was pretty good considering that we were there pretty late in the peak season.

We fished pretty close to shore along the east side of the lake where there is a trail so you can probably walk along that and cast from there.

If you were looking at the connector there might be something in region 8, but im not familiar with the ministries bass policy in trout lakes up in region 8s portion of the connector.

If your in region 3 you wont find any.  Thankfully region 3 FLNRO kills anything people introduced invasives into.

Rodney I love your face in the video near the end when you're getting schooled. Hey, I've been schooled plenty of times I just had to laugh cause we've all been there I'm sure. Standing next to someone using the same technique and they're hooking up every other cast. Enjoyed the video thanks for that.

--Skaha lake was stocked by the ministry with smallies and lakes below Skaha along Okanagan river all have Bass.
--Where Bass are present and have been established for a long period (Shannon) they have been managed.

--There should be no lakes along the connector with Bass and if they are found they should be reported to the ministry.

Shannon sounds like a good bet based on some reviews I've read. What about some of the other small lakes in the Okanagan River area between Kelowna - Osoyoos for bass?

Rose Valley, Ellison, Garnet, Mahoney, Green Lake, Gallagher, Tuc-EL-Nuit

I'm doing some homework on them all trying to plan all the pit stops, but if anyone has first hand experience they're willing to share that would be great!
