Vedder July 18th
« on: July 18, 2004, 08:55:42 PM »

Between three of us not a single hook up. Started at 5am from almost Peach road - south side, walked all the way down to Lickman (campground side) fishing different holes but nothing. Have seen one Spring being taken, and few Socks cought and released by other fishermen.
Hope things improve soon

You're in the wrong spot. Thurs and Fri I saw over 30 hook ups with springs from first light to about 9:30. I was chucking a fly on both days till about 10:00 then changed over to what everyone else was using and got into 4 springs myself. Drifting golfball sized chuncks of guts. Most fish were very clean and averaged about 15- 18 lbs with a few in the 20 lb class. All taken in the same run in the lower river.

I was fishing upper river  yesterday and accidently hook about 5 sockeye. Saw another guy next to me lose what looked like a very chrome steelhead as well. No spring hookups for me but I did see some huge springs  go by. Oh yeah the same guy who lost the steelhead landed a nice fat 16 inch whitefish.

It sured looked like one, as it jumped out of the water and came close to shore. Very slimline body, with a rounded head and it was slightly reddish silver.  Maybe a summer run?

I landed a small one at the limit hole couple years back. I sometimes see kids who are catching trout hook a summer run steelhead. Most are small about 5 pounds

One time a while ago I hooked one on a #9 hook and a tiny trout rod. You should have seen how much that small rod was bent. :o Anyways it got to fast water and spread open the hook. Must have been atleast ten pounds that summer run.

Sorry if I'm hi jacking, but I was wondering if any of the long time Vedder fisherman have knowledge of a summer run.The Vedder has all the ingredients of a sunmmer run river,I have heard rumour of a small long lost summer run.Certainly not fish worth trying for.
