Got there around 9:30am , fished till 1pm . Was a bit miserable cuz of rain and wind picked up , but it was worth it .
Thanks to a member of FWR with sharing his secrets and doing some explanations last time , I did some adjustments to my rig/line/hooks and got a proper bait
It was really fun we were tossing small ones back and limited out with no problems .

I use to fish for perch (and other critters) there as a child. The perch bite well on worms (and almost anything that can be used as bait). Never kept them from there though... how'd they taste?

Bavarian, he's referring to the striped sea perch..they get bigger than the shiner perch and have some usable meat. Lots of them school along certain spots off the rocky shoreline there. Strong fighters for their size..good fun on light tackle. They're a bit pickier on baits- sea worm and shrimp pieces on small hooks work best...however they're still easier to catch than their larger cousin, the pile perch. Piles are more common off west van but they can be difficult to catch as they are very picky on baits (sea worms are best..I've seen others use shore crabs) and have a tendency to get lock jawed around heavily fished areas such as piers.

When I was a kid, we used to use find small crabs (the ones you find in tidal pools under rocks) and they worked very well for decent sized pile perch.  We released them all though.  I've never tasted one.  That was at least 30+ years ago now!  I'm getting old...

Striped Sea Perch - had to google a pic to refresh my memory. 
But yes, I've caught those there too off some of the rocky points. They sure do fight well for their size.

We used to use pile perch for ling cod. Sea worms worked the best for catching them. That was about 40 yrs. ago or more.

Just an FYI for would-be perch anglers...in areas 28 and 29, shore crab are closed to harvesting so they would be illegal to use as bait.

Slow stripping a pink fly also works...surprised the hell out of me..(during pink run near the Seymour).  Lovely looking fish, I though I had caught someones aquarium cast off.
