The Original Wicked Tuna
« on: March 28, 2016, 02:57:10 PM »

I was recently give a book "Treasury of Great Fishing Stories " a collection of fiction and non-fiction tales. It was a decent read once I sorted through some of the archaic stories and the fiction. One story stood out " Giant Nova Scotia Tuna" by Zane Grey. The author relayed his story with passion, hardship and then triumph. It definitely had me wondering fact or fiction, a google search turned this up. When Men were Men, on a 27 ft. open boat to boot.

When I was growing up in Nova Scotia, some boats, usually cape islanders were equipped with a bowspirit where the fisherman hucked a harpoon at the tuna. There was a couple of guides that did charters. A Japanese company got involved at one point and did some tuna "ranching" at one point. Now there's very few fish left.

Zane Grey wrote a number of books and was an adventurer, Angler...

Hardy actually made a Zane Grey model (or two ) reel.
Not too many out there.
