I need your help to save our wild pacific salmon by protecting them from disease and pollution caused by harmful open-net fish farms.

I encourage you to join my campaign by signing and sharing the House of Commons petition to save wild salmon right here: https://petitions.parl.gc.ca/en/Petition/Details?Petition=e-463

For more than 25 years, I have been fighting to save wild B.C. salmon. In 1995 and again in 2000, I swam the 1,400 km length of the Fraser River in order to draw attention to threats to this mighty salmon river. Since being elected to the House of Commons in 2009, federally legislated protection to save B.C. wild salmon has been my top priority.

This year, I introduced Bill C-228 in the House of Commons. Bill C-228 does two things:

Prohibits the creation of new open-net fish farms on Canada’s West Coast.
Instructs the Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and Canadian Coast Guard to introduce a transition plan to move the existing open net farms to safe closed containment systems.

Please help build support for Bill C-228 by signing our and sharing our online petition initiated by wild salmon biologist and advocate, Dr. Alexandra Morton: https://petitions.parl.gc.ca/en/Petition/Details?Petition=e-463

Our goal is to secure 5,000 signatures in support of Bill C-228 by September 1st. Your support will go a long way in helping me gain support from other Members of Parliament.  The more citizens engaged on the issue, the better chance we have of success.

Bill-228 will come to a vote this fall.  This vote provides us with a historic opportunity to demand action on key recommendations of the Cohen Commission and make Canada a leader in closed containment aquaculture.

Together, we can ensure a healthy future for wild salmon and the people who depend on them. For more information visit: http://findonnelly.ndp.ca/save-west-coast-wild-salmon

Sincerely,

Fin
