Has anyone got recommendations on a really good fly fishing course. I think I've gone about as far as I can on my own and would like to take a course this summer.

I see that most of the tackle dealers run courses, but does anyone have experience of - or can recommend - a course that has some 'on the river' instruction as well.

I had a one day course with Ruddick's in N. Van (rudfly.com).   It is pretty good, about 1.5 hours of outdoors casting, and the rest, tying knots, looking at flies, presentation, etc.

Overall a good course at $100.

Jaymer's in Coquitlam(?) from time to time has a 2 day course for $75 (2nd day is on the river)... you may want to check into that.

If you just want casting lessons, Highwater Shop in N. Van had an ad for a guy teaching it for $15/hour.  Have not looked into it, but good casting IMHO is what one needs instructions for, and the rest could be more or less picked up from videos and books (fun reading).

Yes, I took a personal flycasting lesson from Scott. Learned a lot. I would highly recommend Scott to anyone.

newsman (Jeff Weltz) on the forum does classes, you may want to email him. Also Randy at the new shop in Maple Ridge does it too.

Thanks guys, I'll let you know how it goes.

For me personally, casting is only half of it. What I'm more interested in is a fishing version of a golf pro, someone I can return to a few times to continue to improve both casting, but reading the water etc.

I'm back been out of the loop for a month with a move to Mission. I have a course starting Sept 27 at Burnaby Central 10hr of classroom followed with 3hr of casting on the water. Contact the Continuing Education department of the Burnaby shool dist. Area's covered equipment "all of it", history and development of the sport, nots, impact of weather patterns, impact of water temperature, food sources, how to work in tune with nature to have good fly fishing each month of the year, what to do when faced with turnover, fish kill, or bloom, impact of the moon.

Possible course with the Coquitlam School Dist. in Nov.

I will also be teaching for Parks & Rec Maple Ridge starting Jan. 05
