FYI for those who often access that section of the Chilliwack/Vedder River.

Ridiculous. Makes me upset. Not that I fish that section often but this is a bad precedent. Let's all form small communities based on the skin–colour and lock ourselves behinds the gates, and feel 'safe'.

Putting up gates to prevent public access on a private land... How dare they...

This trend has two ways to go: it either continues and we are met with more 'gates' or it diminishes and we all live as one nation, and I mean all nations and countries, caring for one Earth we've got to share. I'd like to see the trend to turn the other way.

Putting up gates isn't going to make the place safer, it only makes your world smaller and your views narrower.

The way to make it a safer place is to change the people, not put up gates.

You're right. There's at least a dozen gated strata complexes within a 5km radius where I live. Lets start a petition to have all of them removed so we can live as one.

I'm surprised that it has taken so long to happen and how tolerant the Nation has been.  Unfortunately people do not change and anglers will continue to disrespect the Nations ownership of that land.  While angling was not the primary reason for the gates (traffic and dumping were the main issues), I know it was one of the concerns particularly during salmon season.   The Nation has been forced into the this position, no different than any private citizen protecting their property.

People change all right given time, effort and fair nurturing environment. Gates do not contribute to making such an environment and that's on both sides of the gate.

Once again a minority spoils it for it for everyone.

I can see this getting ugly real soon  :(. Next thing you know someone with a portable welder might weld the gate shut with the thought that if one group can't go in then nobody can go in.

My first thought actually.
