Types of blades on weighted spinners
« on: November 28, 2016, 04:15:42 PM »

I have a noob question:

I have seen a lot of weighted spinners with French blades, but very few with Indiana blades, and none with Colorado blades.  What is wrong with putting a Colorado blade on a weighted spinner?

Thank you.

Thought I think you could technically do this, I think that the shape of the Colorado blade would not give you a desirable spin on a weighted spinner.  Try it and let us know how it retrieves!

Colorado blades have the quickest startup of the 3, followed by French, then Indiana blades. That's why Colorado blades are so popular for dead drifting, because they catch the current better.
I've never fished a Colorado on a weighted spinner, but I've caught many coho retrieving with and without a float.

Edit: I don't see why it wouldn't work, in fact I'm sure it would.

I made a couple of weighted spinners using #3 Colorado blades this month. They are weighted with brass bodies and they worked fine. I didn't get quite the same flash and vibration I get with a commercial Mepps spinner or an unweighted Colorado under a float. Differences may depend on the specific blade i.e. it's dimensions and the metal gauge.
