Bass fishing in Mill Lake

I fished Mill Lake for the first time this past weekend. I heard that largemouth bass were prolific in this body of water. Well if they are, I'm definitely not using the right method!!
I walked around the lake casting 5" senkos in various colours, not a touch. It appears to get to the deeper water you need to fish off the dock. Still no luck...
Am I fishing too big a bait? Kind of drawing from my bass fishing experience in SoCal where 8" is not outrageous.

Not many Bass around ever since they introduced Pike to that lake. :o

They just are weary close to shore especially at this time of year.  They have moved off their beds and will be more along drop offs close to structure.  And on the outside edges of the the veggies.

OMG, there are NO PIKE IN MILL LAKE.  Its a hoax.


There are Muskies though.  And Snakeheads.

No - I did not.

The recent stock of trout have been programmed to feed on Bass fry. They will soon have them all wiped out.

Interesting that Damien points out the Bass move into deeper water at this time. In years past, I have caught Bass on big dragonfly nymphs in deeper water than I normally fish trout.

Regarding structure, I have a down imaging fish finder and there are a several logs scattered from the old sawmill days. There is also an object that looks like a UFO that seems to display quite a few fish around it most of the time. I think this UFO or USO might even be an old boat. It's too far out to be a shopping cart and those are usually found just off the Keith Wilson Bridge and in the Cap. Maybe its an old sign or newspaper box.

There are no Snakeheads at Mill Lake unless that's a name of a gang or chapter name of a tough local seniors walking group that plan on taking back the park.

Been hooking up on frogs and spinnerbaits. Normally get 2 or 3 in a day so you arent very far behind

If you don't mind taking a hike up Sumas Mountain; Chadsey Lake has a healthy bass population.  No pike sightings up there...yet.

I think I will try an evening session this weekend. Maybe reduce the size of lures as well 😀  Seeing as they aren't as aggressive now they've moved off their spawning beds
